This week (III) Euroregion: Euregio Karelia (did you know?)

Since 2000 Euregio Karelia has operated as a political cooperation forum of  Kainuu, North Karelia, Northern Ostrobothnia and Republic of Karelia. Euregio Karelia has actively safeguarded interests of its cooperation area. The lobbying has been directed towards European Comission and the states of Finland and Russia.  The main achievements of the common safeguarding of interest are:

  • the border crossing point at Kuusamo-Suoperä was opened to international traffic in 2006.
  • contribution in receiving the fund to several large-scale Tacis projects that were carried out in the Republic of Karelia in the field of information society, tourism and the Sortavala water supply system.
  • improved coordination between the Interreg and Tacis programmes. Euregio Karelia support has influenced the Neighbourhood programmes and opportunities to implement current ENPI programmes.

On the official web site of the Euregio Karelia you can leave your suggestion, which Euregio Karelia should try to promote in future. Follow this link for leaving a message.
