This week (XV) Euroregion: Galicia-North of Portugal (basic facts)

The Galicia-North of Portugal working community was incorporated on October 31, 1991 on the basis of the constitutive agreement, drawn up under the European Framework Convention on cross-border cooperation between communities and authorities territorial of the Council of Europe of 1980, with the support of the administrations of the European Union, Spain and Portugal. The Xunta de Galicia and the Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional da Região Norte of Portugal have been the drivers of this process.

Currently, the articles of agreement of the working community has been adapted, on February 24, 2006, to the provisions of the Treaty between the Kingdom of Spain and the Portuguese Republic on cross-border cooperation between entities and territorial authorities of 30 October 2002, whose entry into force occurred on January 30, 2004.

The community was created with the aim of promoting a dynamic of regular meetings between Galicia and Northern Portugal, to address issues of common interest, Exchange information, coordinate efforts and examine the possibilities of solving common problems or contribute to its solution by means of agreements, decisions aimed at a coordinated solution, or of recommendations and proposals to the competent authorities as well as the preparation and submission of joint cooperation projects.
