Sønderjylland – Schleswig region is located in the far north of Germany and the southernmost of Jutland.
Area: approx. 8,000 km²
Population: ca. 700,000, of which 450,000 in Germany, ca. 250,000 in Denmark.

The Region Sønderjylland-Schleswig was constituted on 16 September 1997 (statute amended on 10.10.2002, 15.11.2006 and 29.04.2009) in the Danish town of Aabenraa. It is a region with a centuries-old tradition at the intersection of German and Danish culture. In the region are settled three minority groups – the German, Danish and Frisian minorities. These three minorities enrich the region with a cultural diversity and thus symbolize the multicultural nature of the border region.
